What is the church?
Centuries of tradition lead people to think of a building or a denomination or an organization.
Looking into the New Testament, we see many pictures that clarify this question for us.
One is the picture of a family (1 Timothy 3:15). Those who have built their lives on Jesus (Matthew 7:24) are together to share our lives in faith for encouragement (Hebrews 10:23-25) and support (Galatians 6:2). We laugh together, sorrow together, and help each other become the best that we can.
Another picture is of a body (1Corinthians 12:27) with Jesus as the head. So as Jesus’ body, the church is to be doing the things He did---teaching God’s way and helping those in need.
A third picture of the church is that of a temple (Ephesians 2:19-22). In Old Testament times, people felt close to God in a special way when they were at the Temple. Today, the church is to do the same.
Visitors and questions are always welcome.
